DREAM LAW - GET LEGAL!
Thursday, July 19, 2012
BOOT CAMP IS COMING BACK!Our annual GED Boot Camp classes will take place during the last two weeks of August. GED Boot Camp is a two-week program for three (3) hours a day for five days a week. It's a very intensive experience for people who are mature, focused, and determined. This means for two weeks, your life is ours! There will be no time for anything else because students have to be in class daily and do at least two hours of homework and study daily. GED Boot Camp classes will be offered in the morning and afternoon. Within two weeks, most students who devote their time to the program and study are ready to pass the GED Test. I tell people, "Only the strong survive!" You have to really want this to be successful with this training style. That's why it's called "BOOT CAMP"! If you think you're strong enough to do this--give us a call at 215-745-0141. We will also have a Math GED Prep class in the evening for people who didn't pass the Math section of the GED Test. This program is three evenings a week for two weeks from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Students attend class Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please call us at 215-745-0141 to make your reservation. The cost for this specialized program is $100.00 which includes 15 hours of instruction, the GED specialized book, handouts, and eight additional Saturday morning sessions of math. A $10.00 registration fee is also required.

NEW CLASSES ENROLLING FOR JULY!!!
It's hard to believe that summer is coming quickly. This is such a great time for people to get their GED's in just a few short weeks. Many people want to start their education in September, and they are finding out that without their high school diploma or GED, this won't be happening. Remember, as of July 1, 2012, schools will no longer be able to provide government funding to people who don't have their GED's, shutting down whatever opportunities there were for high school dropouts in the past who qualified for "ability to benefit" enrollment.
We are starting to fill up our July classes, so make sure you come in as soon as possible to sign up. We are keeping our rates the same until September first before the price goes up to $150.00. So now you can still receive the trainig for $135.00 for the July classes.
Sometimes people think that the cost of our course is "high." I explain that the books and materials cost $30.00. We give a discount making it $25.00. The registration fee is $10.00 which is minimal compared to other programs. That means for 30 hours plus an additional 8 Saturdays for math tutoring at no additional cost, you are paying $25.00 a week. If you think that is expensive, then you haven't checked out other programs that charge over a thousand dollars! You check out the math, and in fact, make that your first assignment!
Our July classes begin July 11 and July 12.
Come see us--and you'll love the experience.

WHY OUR STUDENTS PASS!
Our upcoming May/June classes are almost filled as of May 19, 2012. There are still a few slots left that are filling up quickly.
One thing I explain to our students is that our program is only 12 sessions. In 12 sessions we can prepare most of our students to successfully pass the test on the first try.
People ask us this question: Is there a trick to our success? Well, yes AND no.
No, because passing the GED Test is difficult and takes a lot of study and understanding. Yes, because we know extra tips for passing that other people haven't discovered yet! Learning these extra tips has made a significant difference in the higher scores our students receive when taking the test.
The Philadelphia newspaper recently had an article stating that over 250,000 Philadelphia adults do not have a high school diploma or GED. It's a shame to think that so many people will not be able to advance at their jobs or move ahead to a new career.
Our Center is fast, intense, and teaches the skills that allow people to not only pass the GED Test, but also pass college and career school admissions tests. In fact, we are starting to a rise in students who have their high school diplomas but want to brush up on English and math skills before college. Either way--it's a win-win.
Come learn--it will definitely help you earn!

Lovin' the Mayor's Visit on April 21, 2012
On Saturday, April 21, 2012, the Northeast GED Center was honored to welcome Mayor Nutter to help us celebrate our two-year anniversary at our Cottman Avenue location. 20 GED graduates were invited back to have the Mayor sign a copy of their GED in recognition to their great accomplishment.
The Mayor was so inspiring to all of us. We also awarded five full scholarships to the Mayor for him to give out to people who were bullied out of high school. This is our way of thanking the Mayor for his stand on this horrific incident that contributes to the 7,000 high school dropouts around the country EVERY DAY. As the television commercial with basketball star Lebron James keeps reminding us, every 29 seconds a student drops out of school. We know that a substantial number of these students were bullied out of school.
The Mayor gave words of encouragement and support to all of us--both students and staff. He inspired us to continue to do our best in life because we are the future of Philadelphia.
Thank you, Mayor Nutter, for recognizing the important work that we are doing at the Northeast GED Center in preparing our students to make a difference in the future of our wonderful city.

WHAT COMES NEXT AFTER MY GED?
Each week, we get wonderful phone calls from our students who have passed the GED Test. Getting that piece of paper in their hands changes their whole outlook on life. But now what?
Most people who attend our GED program are looking forward to a "next step." They either want to start a career, change careers, find jobs, or be promoted at their job. Without the GED, that has been impossible.
Moving to the next step can be scary if you don't have guidance along the way. Sadly, people make some bad decisions about schools based on fancy advertisements in the media. As the director here at the Center, I sit with any student who is ready to take that next step and discuss what steps are needed to achieve it. I'm always happy to do vocational counseling with our students to help them achieve their goals. For instance, one young woman tole me she wanted to be a legal secretary. She was so bright and positive. I really explored with her what her real dreams were. She always wanted to be an attorney, but she believed that would be impossible. After spending several hours together, we devised a "game plan" of how to quick step over some of the schooling she would need and she enrolled in college. Now, seven years later, she is a practicing attorney. She always tells me each year at the holiday time how grateful she is to me for not allowing her to settle on a career which wasn't her goal. She just didn't know how to go about following her dream.
I am happy to work with any student who has a dream in finding the quickest and best way to get there--whether it is a career school or college.
In my next blog, I will discuss some of the things that worry students in taking those next steps--and how I, too, overcame them!
Remember--getting a diploma is just a few weeks away at the Northeast GED Center.

BACK IN THE DAYS....
I always tell our students that back in the old days when I was growing up--namely in the 1960's--having a high school diploma wasn't nearly as important as having job skills. Since I was an expert typist, I was always able to find work. It was easy to lie about my education and age because we didn't have the technology that we have today. You could FAKE IT--and still MAKE IT!
Today it's a new world. Today it is much more difficult to tell the BIG "L" as I call it--LIE. Today it's much too easy to get caught. That's why getting a legitimate GED is essential.
GED is done differently everywhere you go. No two programs are the same. Sadly, many of the programs are way longer than they need to be. I know. I used to teach a program that was 90 hours long. When I started this new system, I said, "There has to be a better way." And there is--my 30-hour express program.
At the Northeast GED Center, we have developed our own book which teaches you what you need to learn to pass the test. Today people don't have time to sit in a classroom and learn a lot of information they don't need. That's why most of us left school--we were bored learning information that we wouldn't need, right?
I tell our students that when I went to high school, I learned the biggest lie of all. That's when I asked my teachers, "Why do we have to learn this?" Their answer was always, "Because some day you're going to need it." That was the big lie. Now, nearly 43 years later, I never had to cut upon a frog's brain, I never had to figure out why two lines would never end, and I don't address anyone with, "Romeo, Romeo, where forth are thou Romeo?" As I said, wasted information.
I made a study for the past 26 years on what is on the GED Test That's why we know exactly what to teach you in order to pass the test in only four weeks.
I'll be telling you more about us soon! Feel free to write to us and ask any questions or post them on this blog.
