Times Running Out for Paper Testing

This is a reminder that if you want to take the test in Philadelphia using a paper and pencil rather than on a computer, your time is running out. By January 1, all testing will be done on the computer. This means extra anxiety for some people and extra money for everyone! Now is the best time to start classes so you can take the GED Test before it changes. New classes start for the morning, afternoon, and evening next week. Call us to set up an appointment to save your seat! Without your GED, remember--Life is going nowhere! Bonnie Kaye, Director

DREAM LAW - GET LEGAL!

It's so sad that there are so many people who are caught in the web of not being legal. This applies to people who came here when they were children but their parents were not registered aliens. And so now they are here as adults and illegal, even though it wasn't their choice to be here. A new law has now gone into effect that will allow nearly 2 million people under the age of 31 to have the opportunity to become LEGAL if they have a high school diploma. For many people, this is the key to getting a driver's license, social security card, and application for citizenship. The Northeast GED Center is now registering a number of people with this problem so they can quickly get their GED and apply for legal status. If you know someone in this situation, you can have them call us and GET REGISTERED so they can GET LEGAL! Hope is there for those who are smart enough to take advantage of it. Our September morning, afternoon, and evening classes are gearing up, so give a call or visit us as soon as possible to register and save a seat. As of September, our prices are now $150.00, but that includes a $15.00 registration fee. Seats are filling up super fast, so don't wait too long! Bonnie Kaye, Director

BOOT CAMP IS COMING BACK!
Our annual GED Boot Camp classes will take place during the last two weeks of August. GED Boot Camp is a two-week program for three (3) hours a day for five days a week. It's a very intensive experience for people who are mature, focused, and determined. This means for two weeks, your life is ours! There will be no time for anything else because students have to be in class daily and do at least two hours of homework and study daily. GED Boot Camp classes will be offered in the morning and afternoon. Within two weeks, most students who devote their time to the program and study are ready to pass the GED Test. I tell people, "Only the strong survive!" You have to really want this to be successful with this training style. That's why it's called "BOOT CAMP"! If you think you're strong enough to do this--give us a call at 215-745-0141. We will also have a Math GED Prep class in the evening for people who didn't pass the Math section of the GED Test. This program is three evenings a week for two weeks from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Students attend class Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please call us at 215-745-0141 to make your reservation. The cost for this specialized program is $100.00 which includes 15 hours of instruction, the GED specialized book, handouts, and eight additional Saturday morning sessions of math. A $10.00 registration fee is also required.

NEW CLASSES ENROLLING FOR JULY!!!

It's hard to believe that summer is coming quickly. This is such a great time for people to get their GED's in just a few short weeks. Many people want to start their education in September, and they are finding out that without their high school diploma or GED, this won't be happening. Remember, as of July 1, 2012, schools will no longer be able to provide government funding to people who don't have their GED's, shutting down whatever opportunities there were for high school dropouts in the past who qualified for "ability to benefit" enrollment. We are starting to fill up our July classes, so make sure you come in as soon as possible to sign up. We are keeping our rates the same until September first before the price goes up to $150.00. So now you can still receive the trainig for $135.00 for the July classes. Sometimes people think that the cost of our course is "high." I explain that the books and materials cost $30.00. We give a discount making it $25.00. The registration fee is $10.00 which is minimal compared to other programs. That means for 30 hours plus an additional 8 Saturdays for math tutoring at no additional cost, you are paying $25.00 a week. If you think that is expensive, then you haven't checked out other programs that charge over a thousand dollars! You check out the math, and in fact, make that your first assignment! Our July classes begin July 11 and July 12. Come see us--and you'll love the experience. Bonnie Kaye, M.Ed. Director

WHY OUR STUDENTS PASS!

Our upcoming May/June classes are almost filled as of May 19, 2012. There are still a few slots left that are filling up quickly. One thing I explain to our students is that our program is only 12 sessions. In 12 sessions we can prepare most of our students to successfully pass the test on the first try. People ask us this question: Is there a trick to our success? Well, yes AND no. No, because passing the GED Test is difficult and takes a lot of study and understanding. Yes, because we know extra tips for passing that other people haven't discovered yet! Learning these extra tips has made a significant difference in the higher scores our students receive when taking the test. The Philadelphia newspaper recently had an article stating that over 250,000 Philadelphia adults do not have a high school diploma or GED. It's a shame to think that so many people will not be able to advance at their jobs or move ahead to a new career. Our Center is fast, intense, and teaches the skills that allow people to not only pass the GED Test, but also pass college and career school admissions tests. In fact, we are starting to a rise in students who have their high school diplomas but want to brush up on English and math skills before college. Either way--it's a win-win. Come learn--it will definitely help you earn! Bonnie Kaye, M.Ed. Director

Lovin' the Mayor's Visit on April 21, 2012

On Saturday, April 21, 2012, the Northeast GED Center was honored to welcome Mayor Nutter to help us celebrate our two-year anniversary at our Cottman Avenue location. 20 GED graduates were invited back to have the Mayor sign a copy of their GED in recognition to their great accomplishment. The Mayor was so inspiring to all of us. We also awarded five full scholarships to the Mayor for him to give out to people who were bullied out of high school. This is our way of thanking the Mayor for his stand on this horrific incident that contributes to the 7,000 high school dropouts around the country EVERY DAY. As the television commercial with basketball star Lebron James keeps reminding us, every 29 seconds a student drops out of school. We know that a substantial number of these students were bullied out of school. The Mayor gave words of encouragement and support to all of us--both students and staff. He inspired us to continue to do our best in life because we are the future of Philadelphia. Thank you, Mayor Nutter, for recognizing the important work that we are doing at the Northeast GED Center in preparing our students to make a difference in the future of our wonderful city.
